I have not changed any other settings on my computer. Other keyboards that connect via USB work with both as well. Other bluetooth devices work with my desktop and stay connected or reconnect automatically. To recap - other bluetooth devices work with my laptop and stay connected.

I do not have admin privileges for that so I could not try any of the fixes mentioned above, but as they don't work on my desktop it seems likely the issue is common to either the keyboard or Windows 10 unlikely to be an issue with the bluetooth adapter as they are different for the desktop and the laptop.

It does not happen if you manually lock the screen then immediately go to enter your password again - it does however if you leave the keyboard idle for a few minutes and then attempt to log back in. Listed under bluetooth as a paired device, but when you click on it there was no option to connect, only to Remove Device. I then browsed the web for a while, maybe 4-5 minutes, went to type in a box - no typing. On first use, I used the pairing button on the underside of the keyboard and easily found the keyboard listed in available bluetooth devices - it has the following identifier: 4860025001F9_1.42 but once added it comes up as Microsoft Surface Ergonomic Keyboard - clicked on it, it connected automatically no pairing key required and it worked! Brilliant. The desktop does not have inbuilt bluetooth, so I have a bluetooth USB dongle running a 4.0 version of bluetooth. I have just purchased the Microsoft Surface Ergonomic Keyboard to use with my desktop PC, running Windows 10 Home version 1903, and with my Dell work laptop. Those threads are now both closed but without any solution being found.
